The City of Niagara Falls is deeply committed to supporting and enriching the lives of its older adult residents through a wide range of programs, services, and initiatives designed to promote engagement, inclusion, and well-being.

At the forefront of this commitment is the Seniors Advisory Committee, a dynamic group composed of 12 citizen members, 3 city staff, and 2 city councillors. This committee actively advises City Council, advocates on behalf of older adults, and researches issues important to older adults in the community. Their work goes beyond policy: the committee also produces a monthly television program, Seniors News and Views, which features engaging interviews on topics that matter most to seniors. Each year, the committee also organizes a vibrant Seniors Month celebration, offering a full calendar of educational talks, recreational activities, and community events.

Niagara Falls also provides a robust Older Adult Recreation and Culture Program, centrally located at the Community Centre. This hub of activity offers seniors access to fitness, social, and cultural programming tailored to their interests and needs.

The Niagara Falls Public Library plays an essential role in the city’s commitment to older adults. Across its three branches, the library offers a variety of older adult-focused programs and events, including free movie screenings, live author readings, and musical performances that foster community and cultural engagement. Older adults also benefit from extensive resources such as local history archives, audiobooks, board games, and a wide range of digital content—including newspapers, magazines, eBooks, and language-learning tools.

To ensure accessibility and mobility, Niagara’s public transit system offers region-wide travel for older adults at a low fare of just $3.50, making it easier for older adults to stay connected and active across the Niagara Region.

Through these programs and initiatives, the City of Niagara Falls proudly demonstrates its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all older adults.
