Knox City Council’s Community and Council Plan 2017-2021 is Knox’s long-term plan to guide our city for the next four years and beyond. It outlines our long-term shared goals and our aspiration for the future – what we are aiming to achieve for our city and how we will know when we get there.

Our Key Life Stages Plan 2017-2021 aligns with and responds to the Community and Council Plan and focuses on the key life stages of early childhood, youth, and older age. It identifies key issues across life stages; provides direction for Council’s response across and between life stages; and sets out a framework to assist Council to determine its role and service response to current and future reforms. The Plan contains 49 actions, of which 29 have been guided by and mapped to the WHO Global Age Friendly Cities Guide and Age-Friendly domains. The responsibility for delivering on nearly half of those actions sits with the Active Ageing & Disability Services team.

The Active Ageing & Disability Services team provides a range of services to older people including Domestic Assistance, Personal Care, Flexible Respite, Escorted Shopping, Social Support, Food Services, Occupational Therapy, Home Modifications, Home Maintenance, Social Support Groups, Community Transport, and Housing Support.

In order to become more age-friendly, the Active Ageing & Disability Services team will more regularly engage our older community through our Knox Active Ageing Advisory Committee, Knox Bright Ideas network (current subscription of 800+ members) and Commonwealth Home Support Programme clients and carers. We will do so through the use of traditional and new age approaches to community engagement – that put our older community at the center of our thinking, planning and actions.
