Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
City of Béziers France
Offering a rich social life, Béziers is home to a steadily growing population. An office for seniors was created in 2017 and five seniors residences (573 units) and one 60-person long-term care nursing home are under construction.
Béziers’ approach to working with older people focuses on:
– Prevention strategies and healthy behaviors;
– Improving the environment and the quality of life: housing, technical assistance, urban planning, employment;
– Strengthening older people’s role by promoting their participation in intergenerational activities including social, cultural and artistic activities.
Béziers, through its participation in the “Réseau Francophone des Villes Amies des Aînés” initiative, aims to engage in a process of constant improvement of the living conditions of seniors through a participatory approach.
Most recently , among projects designed to enhance seniors’ quality of life, we will undertake the following:
– Creation of a senior expert relay group, health path, meeting expectations in terms of housing, transport, social life, citizenship, employment, environment, outdoor spaces;
– Creation of a single point of contact with the national pension fund, intended to offer seniors a caring path;
– Public-private working group on the geriatric sector.
Béziers continues its fight against the isolation of older people by promoting a changing outlook on aging.
