The Muncipality of Cerro Navia has a specialized office to work with the older adult population, whose fundamental framework is the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons. The Office for the Elderly works with a multidisciplinary perspective and has a very diverse staff, including social workers, sociologists, lawyers, political scientists, kinesiologists, psycho-pedagogues and instructors. The office works directly with several organizations to strengthen the communication and collaboration between groups and their diverse experiences. These organizations that advocate for the empowerment of the elderly hold educational talks about the rights of the elderly, as well as classes for artistic and cognitive simulation. A monthly assembly is held at the Office for the Elderly that provides information about the municipality and the activities that will take place in the upcoming month. The council has also committed to the first Community Day Center for seniors with daily courses and meals.

In relation to the coordination of age-friendly efforts, an Intersectional Network of Elderly People has been established, which involves state legal services and health centers (CESFAM-CECOF). The office also works with SENAMA and SEREMI for Social Development, which offers benefits through the “Vínculos” program, where we provide psychosocial and socio-labor support to older people who are far from institutional networks. We also have the Home Care Program that provides support and care for activities of daily living, with a kinesiologist and 6 assistants in the home, who work with people with moderate or severe dependence. During his tenure, Mayor Mauro Tamayo has made popular optics and will establish a popular pharmacy to give adults and the rest of the population of Cerro Navia economic support.
