Ceredigion covers an area of 1,900km² and is mostly made -up of agricultural land, moorland and forestry, and forms a significant portion of the Cambrian Mountains.  The county to the west borders over 90km of coastline.  The attractive landscapes and remote locations in Ceredigion form the basis of ‘rural well-being’ tourism, which draws in many visitors to the area

As the Local Authority, Ceredigion County Council has put in place a Through Age Wellbeing strategy 2021-2027 with a vision:

To ensure everyone in Ceredigion will be able to reach their full potential. To ensure fair access for all to excellent universal and targeted services that supports the health and wellbeing of all citizens.

The approach highlights the need for collaborative working with health, voluntary sector and partners with a focus on prevention and choice.

Age Friendly Ceredigion brings together our older citizens with the wide range of Age Friendly services, organisations, amenities, policies and culture that we have here.

Together, we are committed to ensuring that we are all able to enjoy the opportunities that living longer can bring.

This means:

  • being equipped to meet the challenges we all may face as we grow older and ensuring that older people, particularly those who are most vulnerable, can access the support and services they need to thrive and remain healthy.
  • welcoming and promoting innovation and good practice to inspire action, empowering older people by ensuring they understand their legal rights and how they can exercise them to make their voices heard and challenge poor practice.
  • aiming to make Ceredigion an even better place to grow older.

To achieve this, Ceredigion County Council and its Age Friendly Forum of partners, older people and communities will put into action the following steps:

  • Review and develop our baseline assessment to ensure that we have an up-to-date picture of ‘age friendliness’ of Ceredigion
  • Enhance ways to involve older people in all stages of the Age-Friendly development process.
  • Create a three-year Age-Friendly Action Plan in collaboration with a range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Implement and embed a culture of continual improvement within our Age-Friendly plan, capturing examples of good practice for sharing with the wider network.
  • Support the creation of resilient communities that can support older people to live well.
  • Ensure that older people can enjoy all aspects of life in Ceredigion and have opportunities to participate in activities and events to improve wellbeing and enrich their lives.

In Ceredigion, we believe that Age-Friendly communities create the conditions within which people can age well, adding life to years – not just years to life
