Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council launched their Community Plan ‘A Better Future Together’ 2017 – 2030 in June 2018. Action 2 in the Community Plan is to ‘develop and deliver an Age Friendly Charter and programme of actions for the benefit of the resident population of Causeway Coast and Glens.’

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in conjunction with the Public Health Agency has recruited a dedicated Age Friendly Coordinator. A Borough wide survey has been conducted which was used to inform the development of an Age Friendly Charter for the Borough. The Charter was completed in June 2021 and is attached to this application (Letter of Commitment from the Mayor section).

The Age Friendly Coordinator has developed proposals for the structure of the programme in the Causeway Coast and Glens area. This will include the development of an Age Friendly Alliance (Project Board) and an Age Friendly Forum (Steering Group). Membership of the Alliance will consist of key statutory partners and will have a remit for strategic development and implementation. Membership of the Forum will consist of voluntary / community groups who work closely with older people. The Forum will have a remit for proposed programming and service development, collaborative project development and for relaying priorities for older people to the Age Friendly Alliance. This is due for approval by Council in August 2021.

Following this, the Age Friendly Coordinator will support the developed groups, develop a baseline assessment and begin the process of strategic planning.
