Establishing an age-friendly model that is appropriate for the local conditions and circumstances of the city and developing an appropriate urban policy is recommended by the WHO.

○ Busanjin-gu’s Aging-Friendly City Action Plan is designed to create a city that is suitable for all generations of residents, while maintaining the basic perspective of building an urban environment where older adults can live comfortably in a healthy and friendly place. The objective of the implementation plan is to create a vibrant city, involving not only older adults, but also all generations and fostering a sustainable community with mutual respect and cooperation.

○ Busanjin-gu’s age-friendly city establishes visions, goals, and strategies in consideration of the fact that not only older adults but also the entire generation can create and enjoy an aging-friendly urban environment together.The eight areas of Busanjin-gu are set as outdoor space and buildings (area 1), transportation and environment (area 2), housing and residential environment (area 3), leisure and social participation (area 4), respect and social inclusion (area 5), civic participation and employment (area 6), communication and information (area 7), and community support and health services (area 8)

Goal of Promotion ① Cities with excellent settlement conditions that are convenient for older adults to live in and safe (Related areas: Area 1, Area 2, Area 3)
Major strategy: Expansion of an aging-friendly living environment and physical infrastructure that can be conveniently and safely used by all generations.

Goal of Promotion ② A vibrant city based on a generational coexistence-type social culture and mature community (related areas: 4 areas, 5 areas, 6 areas)
Major Strategies: Building a Sustainable Social Foundation for Generational Coexistence and Revitalizing Mutually Respectful Communities.

Goal of Promotion ③ High quality of life city communicating based on customized welfare and health safety net for each generation (related areas: 7 areas, 8 areas)
Major strategies: Creating a digitally inclusive environment for older adults and activating technology-based integrated care services and community connections.

○ Busanjin-gu has established a ‘vibrant aging-friendly city’ to create a city that is age-friendly, considering the geographical factors at the center of Busan and the characteristics of the younger generation and older adults sharing space and culture together.

○ Based on the aging-friendly inspection in Busanjin-gu, indicators were selected in 8 areas based on the derivation of execution indicators for each inspection item, considering the feasibility of the aging-friendly project as a top priority.

■ Area 1: Outdoor space and buildings
– The first area selects indicators based on the basic policy of strengthening accessibility and safety of outdoor spaces and building facilities that can be easily and conveniently used by all households, as well as the walking weak, and the realization of a safe distance and a good city to walk. Indicators include urban regeneration projects, distinctive city creation projects, the creation of local sports facilities, maintenance projects for vacant and empty buildings, installation of railings in vulnerable areas for high-rise walking, and improvement of the walking environment in safe alleys.

■ Area 2: Transportation and Environment
– The second area shall establish indicators based on the basic policy of securing the convenience of movement by creating a safe and pleasant transportation institution and environment for all, and improving the accessibility of public transportation. Indicators include providing safe hospital accompanying services, improving the local traffic safety environment, installing smart transportation facilities, maintaining the environment of bus platforms, and maintaining bus platform facilities.

■ Area 3: Housing and Residential Environment
– The third area establishes indicators with the basic policy of improving the urban environment by maintaining poor old housing and residential environments, and expanding support services so that older adults can live a safe and pleasant residential life.  Indicators include the supply of gas safety valves for the vulnerable, the improvement of the residential environment of old houses, and the operation of Care Safety Housing.

■ Area 4: Leisure and Social Engagement
– Area 4 establishes indicators with the basic policy of promoting a sense of social belonging and vitality by expanding intergenerational exchanges and opportunities to participate in various leisure activities. Indicators include the operation of the Busanjin-gu Lifelong Learning Center, holding more enjoyable and more exciting cultural and artistic events, supporting residents’ participatory cultural and artistic activities, operating residents’ participatory sports programs, and creating a center for new and old complex facilities.

■ Area 5: Respect and Social Inclusion
– Area 5 establishes indicators with the basic policy of building a social environment without discrimination by creating a culture of respect between generations and strengthening social inclusion. Indicators include providing free meals to low-income older adults, organizing an event for older adults, and supporting their health insurance premiums.

■ Area 6: Citizen Participation and Employment
– Area 6 establishes indicators based on the basic policy of creating an environment in which various generations can actively participate in social activities and economic activities. Indicators include the operation of employment information centers and the promotion of job programs for older adults.

■ Area 7: Communication and Information
– Area 7 establishes indicators with the basic policy of expanding communication channels so that all generations, including the elderly and the digitally vulnerable, can easily access and utilize information. Indicators include strengthening the promotion of official SNS channels in Busanjin-gu and informatization education for residents.

■ Area 8: Community welfare and health services
– Area 8 establishes indicators with the basic policy of strengthening customized welfare and health services based on the community, so that older adults can live a healthy and stable life. Indicators include emergency care support projects, data-based single-person household safety and care services, support for health checkups for the vulnerable, care prevention, the operation of a healthy retirement preparation team, and the village health center project.
