Boryeong City is firmly committed to fostering an age-friendly urban environment in alignment with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities framework. Guided by the WHO’s eight key domains, the city has pursued a comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy to enhance the well-being, dignity, and participation of its older residents while simultaneously preparing for the demographic shifts brought about by an aging society.

In the areas of transportation, housing, social participation, and communication, the city has implemented a wide range of initiatives. These include improving the accessibility and reliability of public transportation, expanding barrier-free pedestrian walkways and crossings, and upgrading community facilities to ensure that older adults can move safely and comfortably in their daily lives. Furthermore, centers and community hubs have been renovated to provide inclusive spaces for recreation, lifelong learning, and cultural engagement, thereby fostering social connectedness and reducing isolation among older residents.

Boryeong City has also emphasized the importance of economic participation and health security for older adults. Efforts are underway to expand tailored employment opportunities, promote skill development programs, and encourage active contributions from older citizens. In healthcare, the city has advanced personalized health management services, strengthened preventive care, and introduced innovative approaches to medical and welfare integration. To ensure safety and resilience, emergency response and safety assurance systems have been reinforced, providing older adults with greater peace of mind.

Finally, through the promotion of integrated community care services and intergenerational exchange programs, the city has sought to build stronger ties across generations, nurturing mutual respect and solidarity. By laying these foundations, Boryeong has developed a sustainable and future-oriented policy framework that not only addresses the immediate needs of its aging population but also supports long-term social cohesion and inclusivity.
