As of January 2024, Andong city entered the stage of a super aged city, with the population of aged 65 or over consisting of 27.84% of the total population.
To cope with the continued growth of an older population, Andong city developed “the three year plan of age-friendly Andong city”, with some 60 projects of policies, programs and services that follow the WHO Framework on Age-friendly Cities.
To carry out the three year plan, we set up a vision of “Elderly happiness capital of Andong’ where respect and etiquettes are alive, and created 4 goals of: 1) enjoyable life; 2) guaranteeing safety; 3) enhancing health; 4) sharing happiness. We will do our very best to carry out the three year plan through communication and coordination among each department and run an ”age friendly city monitoring group“ composed of city residents and older persons to create an environment for older persons to live comfortably and safely,
In addition, Andong city intends to form a monitoring group in the process of establishing an action plan for an age-friendly city to provide opportunities for older citizen participation and collect opinions from citizens.
Andong city conducted focus group interviews with residents and experts to inform the process of creating an age-friendly city. Through the focus group discussions, perspectives on Andong city’s living conditions, age-friendly degrees, regional gaps, and satisfaction with current age-friendly policy were identified. Through the findings of the focus groups Andong city will create a more complete and age-friendly urban environment.

Andong city will continue to develop new services, to place provide adequate infrastructures and will continue our efforts to enhance age friendly environment.
