The city of Alexandria has a long history of financial and community support for seniors which changes with their fluctuating needs. Programs include free and reduced Meals on Wheels and congregate dining, Alexandria Senior Center, Senior Companion, Experience Works Employment Program, Let’s Go Fishing, Douglas County Senior Office, AARP driving safety and Elder Care Network. There are Senior Volunteer Opportunities through many organizations. Free services include; parish health nurses, legal aid, health counseling, AARP income tax preparation, AARP fraud awareness, computer education, etc. There are many senior services available in Alexandria that address senior housing, health, social, financial, recreation, physical and emotional needs. Service information is available via phone through the Senior Linkage Line and via Internet at www.minnesotahelp.info. We will become more age-friendly by surveying our senior community and working on addressing their most pressing needs.
