Commitment as an Affiliate Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities
Brunei Darussalam is experiencing a demographic transition characterised by a growing older population. In response, the Ministry of Health has placed healthy ageing as a strategic priority, aligned with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), the WHO Regional Action Plan on Healthy Ageing in the Western Pacific and National Vision 2035 through the integration of a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to ageing.
The Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam has been committed to create an environment conducive for the wellbeing of all ages, including older people. Over the years, the Ministry of Health has already taken several initiatives in advocating and promoting age-friendly actions across all levels and sectors. This commitment is shown through initiatives such as conducting an intersectoral consultation on age-friendly communities in Brunei Darussalam, assessment of age-friendly Tutong District, assessment of hospitals, health centres, supermarkets, fresh markets and mosques in-collaboration with other non-health agencies.
By joining the GNAFCC as a Global Affiliate, the Ministry of Health seeks to strengthen technical collaboration, share good practices, and contribute to global knowledge exchange on age-friendly policies and programmes. We also believe that by connecting through the Affiliate Network will provide us with valuable guidance, resources and opportunities to drive these efforts, locally, regionally and internationally. I can assure you that the Ministry of Health has kindly acknowledge and accept the Terms of Reference for Network Affiliate and will work tremendously to support the Network’s mission and functions in inspiring change, connecting cities and communities, supporting in providing solutions and contributing meaningfully to the network’s activities in-collaboration with WHO and other members.
