Municipalities department has created building and terms conditions in the emirates of Sharjah which highly taking into account people with special needs and elderly. The List of conditions includes general conditions for the doors which includes the minimum width of the doors and entrance and corridors of the building. To get the building completion certificate any building or house should meet these requirements below.

The minimum width of the width of the doors shall be as follow:

Entrance and corridors

• The entrance should be marked on the facade in which it’s located in terms of the view of the dimensions and finishing materials and its width shall not be less than 2 meters.
• All requirements for people with special needs must be provided at the entrance and the corridor according to the specifications that mentioned in the list of regulations. In addition, providing ramps for the disabled at the entrance and the change level of the slope not exceeding 12/1, and provide with a suitable fall protection from the two sides.
• Floors and walls claddings and finishes in the entrance foyers are of premium quality materials. For example, marbles and granite taking into account distinctive decorations and ceiling lighting.
• The location of the fire equipment must be treated architecturally in accordance with the Civil of defense specifications.
• Allocating a place in the building entrance to mailboxes and billboard names and companies used to build in a clear place and suitable aesthetic.

Corridors

• The minimum width of the main corridor on the floors elevator parking areas is not less 2 meter, and sub-lances not less than 1,50 meter.
• Ventilation must be observed for times more than 1m long, and a photo that does not reveal the kitchen and bathroom overlooking on the skylight.
• Flooring and wall finishing are of a highly durable material such as, ceramics.
