Summary

The Seniors Information Resource (Resource) is an initiative of the Western Australian Government, developed by the Department of Communities as an action under An Age-friendly WA: State Seniors Strategy 2023–2033. It responds directly to feedback from older people across Western Australia, who identified a need for clear and accessible information about services, programs, concessions and rebates.

The Resource brings this information together in a ‘one-stop-shop’, designed to improve awareness and access to supports. It covers a wide range of topics including housing, health, aged care services, abuse of older adults, technology and communication, transport, social connection, end-of-life planning and more.

The Resource was first launched in November 2024 as a hardcopy A5 booklet, supported by a downloadable PDF version. Printed copies were distributed to libraries, community resource centres, organisations and individuals across Western Australia.

In November 2025, the Resource evolved to include a dedicated website to ensure information remains current and easy to update. A QR code, printed on magnets, was distributed to support easy access via mobile devices. Limited hardcopy booklets continue to be distributed through Members of Parliament electorate offices to support community reach.

The Seniors Information Resource has been well received by older Western Australians, with strong demand for printed copies highlighting its value as a trusted and practical source of information.

This resulted in the development of the Seniors Information Resource.

No

Looking back

Reflections:
To ensure longevity of the printed versions, the publication year was removed on the second edition. Feedback from older people requested greater differentiation between editions (e.g. different colour schemes on the cover).

Challenges:
Website security for organisations contributing their information was a key concern so effort was put into ensuring it was not a security risk. This was resolved through penetration testing to find vulnerabilities that were then remediated.
