The Senior Citizen Activity Centre (Pusat Kegiatan Warga Emas, PKWE) was established by Tutong District’s Community Development Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports on 12th March 2013. This Centre aims to serve as a platform for older citizens to stay active and contribute to their community.
This Centre acts as a place for older citizens to carry out daily social and religious programmes and activities. It also involves partnerships from many agencies such as the government, private sectors, non-governmental organisations, and local communities. The Centre provides inclusive access to all generations and helps to strengthen the relationships between older people, youth, persons with disabilities, and the local community.
The Senior Citizen Activity Centre also aims to be a knowledge-hub for older people, where they may gain knowledge, engage in improving daily life skills such as leisure, religion, health, and socialization. The Centre is intended to support the development of older people through a supportive environment that allows them to improve their quality of life.
As a general overview, the main objectives of The Senior Citizen Activity Centre in the Tutong District of Brunei (established in 2020) are to:
1. Provide a platform for older people to share their experiences and expertise
2. Encourage the involvement and cooperation of various agencies in sustaining the well-being of older people
3. Strengthen interaction and communication between older people to reduce loneliness, and
4. Encourage life-long learning amongst older people, through achieving various goals and new life-skills
