Programs to enable older people to find values in life

Programs to enable older people to find values in life

Summary

Hakone Town holds annual Ground Golf Tournament for older people as an initiative to get them active and enjoy life. The tournament attracts nearly 100 seniors every year mainly from seniors’ social clubs, and they compete their golfing skills.
This tournament is an event the Town entrusted to Seniors’ Social Club for organizing, so seniors themselves are responsible for planning, refereeing, and recruiting and overseeing players. This gives them a sense of contribution and something to live for. Other encouraging events for seniors are “Lively Sports Meet” and “Senior College”.
To prevent seniors from depending on nursing care as much as possible, the Town offers “Smile Exercise Class” and “Refreshing Mind and Body Class”.
