Summary

Porto Without Diabetes Initiative

This initiative, aligned with World Diabetes Day on November 14th, takes place annually in the Municipality between the 14th and 30th of that month. It consists of a set of coordinated activities that aim to contribute to a greater awareness and understanding of this disease among citizens, as well as its prevention and early detection.

Throughout the month of November, a variety of activities are promoted:

Risk assessment for diabetes development: These actions aim to identify individuals at risk of developing diabetes and provide them with information and resources to prevent or delay the onset of the disease.

Dissemination of videos with messages about diabetes management and healthy habits: These videos are shared through various channels, such as social media, local television, and public events.

Workshops, talks, and conferences: These events provide information about diabetes prevention, management, and healthy living to the general public and specific groups, such as caregivers and people with diabetes.

Promotion of healthy eating and physical activity: These activities are offered in various locations throughout the city and are designed to help people adopt healthier lifestyles.

The “Porto Without Diabetes” initiative has the following objectives:

  • To raise awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes.
  • To promote the Findrisck® tool for self-diagnosis of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes within 10 years.
  • To inform the general public about the modifiable risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes and to promote skills for change, also through the entities that belong to the Social Network.
