Summary

The project “Pedalar Sem Idade Porto” offers electric trishaw rides for people with reduced mobility, aiming to reduce social isolation. It currently manages 60 volunteer cyclists from Porto and follows these guiding principles:

Generosity: It begins with a generous act of taking one or two elderly people or those with reduced mobility for a ride in a trishaw.

Slowly: Taking things slowly allows people to enjoy the environment and be present for the moment with the beneficiaries throughout the ride.

Stories: Older adults have so many stories to tell that will be forgotten if we don’t listen to them. We share stories, listen to them, and pass them on through word of mouth or on social media.

Relationships: The project “Pedalar Sem Idade” is about building countless new relationships—between generations, between seniors, between pilots, between passengers, and family members. Relationships that build trust, happiness, and provide a better quality of life.

Ageless: Life is meant to be lived at all ages, both young and old, and it can always be exciting, fun, and meaningful. Ageless means allowing people to grow old in a positive context—fully aware of the opportunities that arise when they are given the chance to interact with others and belong to their community.

The rides take place once a week and last for 1 hour, at a fixed day and time.
