Fall and fracture prevention program

Summary

Nakai Town has been conducting a fall & fracture prevention program named “Koyurugi Exercise” for older people aged 65 and over since 2003. Fall-related fractures are one of the main causes contributing to older people’s care dependency. The “Koyurugi Exercise” programme aims to maintain and improve older people’s quality of life by improving physical strength to extend their healthy life expectancy.

The programme is held at neighborhood community centers, which are easily accessible for older participants. Now, more than 70 volunteers support over 300 participants to participate in this programme in 17 community centers. This programme has resulted in a positive, synergistic effect: it has contributed to preventing older people’s care dependency and encouraged them to become more socially active.
