Summary
From engagement with older residents it was found that they wanted local information on activities, events and issues impacting them. The Banyule Age-friendly Champions (volunteers) were also looking for other opportunities to explore the eight WHO age-friendly city domains. An editorial group involving Age-friendly Champions (volunteers) and Council staff was established and the Age in Focus Newsletter was formed. The title for the newsletter came from seeking submission from older adults. The content of the newsletter includes: information on health & active ageing, what’s on, Clubs in Focus and a theme which is one of the eight WHO age-friendly domains. The content is approved by the editorial group (involving older adults) and then the design is completed by the Council Communication Department.Currently 3000 hard copies are produced and it is available online. Residents can join the mailing list and it is also made available on the website and community facilities and other shops that regularly support older adults.
