Summary

What urban policies and transformations can scale up the quality of life for all, regardless of age? And why are cities increasingly cooperating internationally in this field?

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the City Diplomacy Lab, in partnership with Columbia Global Paris Center, the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, and the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center, hosted a conversation with representatives of three cities that make age-friendliness a priority: Cardiff (United Kingdom), Cockburn (Australia), and Sharjah (United Arab Emirates).

The panelists:
• Nicola Pitman, Age-Friendly Lead Officer, Cardiff Council
• Julie McDonald, Seniors Centre Coordinator, City of Cockburn
• Asma Alkhudari, Director of Sharjah Age-Friendly Office

Opening remarks by John Beard, Director of the International Longevity Center-USA at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and Thiago Herick de Sa, Technical Officer, Age-Friendly Environments, World Health Organization.

Moderation by Andrew Wells, Program Coordinator, Columbia Global Paris Center.
