Summary

The municipality of Cartago is dedicated to promoting the rights of older persons and persons with disabilities. To improve the accessibility of Cartago the municipality has built access ramps on the corners of 260 streets and avenues as well as installed guide tiles on sidewalks for people with visual impairments. Supported by free, easy, and safe transit, older persons and persons with disabilities now have increased access to their community because of the sidewalk modernization project.

These actions provide older adults and those living with disabilities ideal spaces for their well-being, access to free transit and easy and safe transit through our city. This in turn improves their quality of life and promotes healthy and sustainable mobility. Older people and people with disabilities now have the opportunity to participate in various activities that take place in the city since they can move safely and without obstacles.

A total of 260 corners in the center of Cartago began to be transformed for the benefit of older people and people with disabilities, thanks to the sidewalk modernization project initiated by the municipality and which seeks that these populations have the freedom to transit through the city, travel its streets without inconveniences, access its spaces with ease and safety and enjoy the recreational and historical spaces that our canton offers.

All people have the right to move freely through our city and it is important that the infrastructure is suitable and lends itself to enforcing that right and that it covers the entire population of our canton.
