Summary

Promotion of healthy lifestyles, the good use of time, risk prevention and the promotion of an active life that allows daily training of cognitive and physical abilities, promoting the independence of the elderly, at a mental, physical and social level with the purpose of maintaining a satisfactory functional level and with the accompaniment of the family in the development of these preventive strategies for dementia, improving family coexistence, social cohesion and the visibility of the work of the Day Centers as spaces of integration and focused work in active and healthy aging and integration values, combating the problems associated with unwanted loneliness.

Projection was made to the community with 5 virtual workshops on functional activities at home for older people, sensory stimulation at home for people with cognitive impairment, ergonomics for the caregiver, prevention of falls in the elderly and the opportunity to hold workshops face-to-face in Day Centers, with a focus on providing support and practical tools to the people in charge of caring for older people in each center, such as a recreational workshop 1, body percussion, cognitive – origami, body expression and dance therapy and challenges cognitive.

In general terms, the program was a challenge, due to the situation related to COVID, as well as what innovation in community programs implies; However, it was achieved with great success, with the actions of different actors: the administration of the program, family and community support, as well as the most important actor who was the participating elderly person and their capacity for self-motivation and need for learning.

Challenges:
Technological gap so that older people could participate since due to the vulnerability of the older adult population and the prevention of contagion by the COVID pandemic, face-to-face activities were suspended.
