Summary

The fully equipped Active Ageing Centre is a community hub for older adults in Pengerang. Weekly community exercise sessions, designed to improve older adults’ dynamic balance and prevent falls, occur at the centre while home exercise therapies are also shared. A training program was conducted for the local family members on the aspects of wheelchair safety, walking aids, bed mobilization, and bed transfer technique. Older adults’ vital signs—blood pressure, capillary sugar level, RHR, exercise session, and body weight—were monitored on a daily basis through mobile health care facilities such as the Fit-Van. All of these initiatives that have occurred in the past three years assist in ensuring that the older population in the rural area of Pengerang have access to health monitoring and simple physical exercise interventions that can decrease the chance of significant injury due to falls.
