A charity market with symbolic prices was launched at the elderly home in Sharjah
The Elderly Care Home, affiliated with the Sharjah Social Services Department, launched a month-long charity market at its headquarters in the Al Qarayen area of Sharjah. The Elderly Care Home invited the public to visit the exhibition and shop for displayed items, the proceeds of which will go towards supporting and enhancing recreational services for the elderly residents of the home. Maryam Al Qatari, Director of the Home, explained that the charity market was launched seven years ago with the aim of encouraging community members to participate in supporting the elderly and participating with them in various events organized by the Home. She added that the Home receives visitors of all age groups, including children, families, adults, and institutions, during weekdays, holidays, and special occasions, with the aim of enhancing the integration of the elderly into society. Visitors bring gifts for the elderly, and gifts are distributed to them, while any unused items are stored. Based on this, the home decided to organize a public exhibition to sell the gifts presented by visitors to the elderly, and to use the proceeds to support recreational services for the home’s residents, and organize indoor and outdoor activities and trips. This market is held twice a year, and its exhibits vary between men’s and women’s clothing, toys, and various types of gifts, at symbolic prices. She continued, “As is well known, the home is accustomed to receiving guests during weekdays and during holidays with members of the community, which has become a large number. We distribute gifts to the elderly, and some of them cannot use them, so the remainder is stored in the warehouse. Therefore, we decided to organize an exhibition for the public to sell and benefit from gifts, the proceeds of which will go towards services for the elderly and to support activities and events, both indoor and outdoor. In addition, we organize this market twice a year. The exhibits are diverse, including women’s and men’s clothing, toys, and other items, and their prices are symbolic.”
