Summary

The project is promoted by the Senior Citizens Advisory Council (Social Participation Directorate, Area of Social Rights, Barcelona City Council)The Project for the deconstruction of stereotypes and prejudice among elderly people is a participatory citizen awareness-raising strategy, to deconstruct existing stereotypes and prejudice about the elderly and claim their right to difference and to equality, with special attention given to groups who undergo overlapping discriminations (gender, sexual orientation and origin): elderly women, elderly LGBTI people, and elderly people of diverse cultural origins.Objectives:• Guaranteeing the visibility of the elderly in their diversity.• Giving voice to the elderly.• Fighting stereotypes and prejudice. • Working for equal treatment. • Keeping in mind multiple discrimination due to factors derived from ageism.• To foster a positive social image of elderly people.• To implement initiatives that foster respect towards elderly LGTBI.Methodology:• Participation.• Territorialisation.• Intersectionality.Work will focus on four core themes of complementary action:• Organization of a participatory theatre workshop.• Creation of audiovisual materials for raising awareness about stereotypes and prejudice concerning the elderly.• Creation of graphic materials.• Community management of a website platform and Facebook and Twitter networks.

Older people’s involvement: Older people were involved in the age-friendly practice at multiple or all stages

Details on older people’s involvement: The Senior Citizens Advisory Council will be the promoting organisation throughout the entire process of the project’s design and implementation. Participants in the forum theatre workshops to be carried out will be elderly people in the neighbourhoods involved: 3 workshops and a total of 60 to 80 participants. Performances of the forum theatre play are intended at various clubs for the elderly throughout the city.The protagonists of the audiovisual materials will be diverse elderly people (gender, origin, sexual orientation and so on).
