In February 2019, the ‘Ordinance on the creation of an age-friendly city in Seongnam’ was enacted in order to promote the implementation.

Seongnam City organized an age-friendly city monitoring group to monitor the process of the implementation as well. The group consists of people from various age groups from individuals in their 20s to those over 60. 6 groups were formed and members of each group had the opportunity to voice their opinions and ideas to make Seongnam City more age-friendly.

In addition, the city conducted a survey to find better understand peoples attitudes towards ageing, including seniors and other general citizens. 500 general citizens, whose ages are between 20 to 64, and 700 senior citizens, between 65 to 89, participated in the survey. In order to get fair results as much as possible, regions of residence and sex were also considered. The contents of the survey were based on the eight guidelines proposed by the WHO, and demographic characteristics of citizens were added. For each question, a positive and negative ratio and the average points (maximum 5 points) were given. Due to COVID-19, the survey on general citizens was conducted online. For seniors, the survey was conducted face-to-face utilizing CAPI (Computer-assisted personal interviewing). Also, masks were provided to seniors. The results of this survey can be found in the baseline assessment document.

Focus Group Interviews (FGI) were also conducted. A female and male group were formed and each group had 10 interviewees. The interviewees’ information such as the period of residence in Seongnam City, occupation, age, and housing type were included.
