“Age-friendly City Seocho-gu for Everyone”

As a part of senior welfare service in Seocho-gu, we have been proceeding policies and operating the following services to improve the quality of life for seniors: (i) The senior center; (ii) Welfare support facilities; (iii) Culture and leisure complex center for new class of elders; and (iv) Consultation for an elder who lives alone. Seocho-gu has implemented the most innovative strategies to create the age-friendly city to achieve one of goals. Based on the survey results for the development of the guideline for age-friendly cities/communities, we are planning the following major.

□ Direction
◯ Establish the optimum infrastructure for senior health, safety, and social participation to invigorate senior life
◯ Conceptualize an action plan to improve the quality of life for all residents including senior citizens based on the Plan for an Ageing Society and Population and the eight domains of the WHO’s Age-friendly City (AFC)
◯ Join the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities to discuss issues pertaining to the aging population with member cities and benchmark cases of other cities in Korea and overseas

How collaboration worked: We expect senior citizens to actively participate in planning and provide their opinions that would be a vulnerable addition the policy. Not only the ward office but also professional groups, related organizations, and private companies would have conference to discuss and create a more meaningful age-friendly city action plan.

Reflections:
We would like to find out about the system improvement and practical programs that can be provided equally to all age groups in housing issues.

Challenges:
There are issues of single household, isolation, stay-at-home, unable to go out side and emergency measures. The association provides support to these issues with the help of the total community.
