Walton County was created in 1824; its present area is 1,028 square miles. The historic downtown area is home to Lake DeFuniak, a naturally round lake that is approximately one mile in circumference and perhaps fed by a small natural spring. Walton County currently has two centers available for the County’s seniors. In North Walton, the Life Enrichment Senior Center provides a gathering place to enhance the quality of life of Walton County residents ages 50 and up. Our facilities include an activity center, a reading center, computer lab, meeting rooms, a billiard table, and a game room. In South Walton, the John Horton Senior Center hosts activities such as bingo, live music, trivia and movies, with daily hot lunches available for seniors 60 and over.

With the support of the local Council on Aging, Boys & Girls Club, Life Enrichment Center, Coastal Seniors of South Walton & area churches, Walton County strives to ensure that our older adults have multiply choices for services and volunteer opportunity. Walton County hopes to encourage our community to support an active, healthy lifestyle for people of all ages and to interact with the senior volunteer groups that are in place already. We hope that being included in the Age-Friendly Communities network, it will bring more focus on the needs of our older adults and bring awareness of the options/resources that our community has for all ages.
