Summary

Since 2018 Vectis Radio, a local community radio station on the Isle of Wight, has presented a twice monthly show in partnership with Age Friendly Island. The show features Age Friendly Island partners representing public, private and voluntary sector organisations who are all working to improve the Isle of Wight community for older people. It is used to disseminate information and good practice. Previous shows have covered topics such as how to stay safe online, scams prevention, sensory loss, statutory services information as well as information on social opportunities and events.

Emma Lincoln, Age Friendly Island Development Officer, said of the show:

“The Older & Wiser shows have given us a wonderful opportunity to reach older isolated residents who might not be aware of the projects, support and magnificent work that is taking place locally. It also allows us to share vital information and start a conversation about how we grow older and what being Age Friendly means to us all.”

The Older & Wiser show is live on vectisradio.com on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month from 3pm to 4pm (GMT). There is also Older & Wiser chatter throughout the week, this 10-minute segment highlights an urgent or topical subject, or share details of upcoming events that may be of interest to older people.
