The Senior Center offers programs and services to adults over age 50 from all over Alameda County. Programs include exercise and enrichment classes, a daily nutrition program, field trips, special events, social services and referrals to local businesses and services. In addition, residents of the 94608 ZIP code who are over age 70 or have a disability may participate in the 8 To Go Program, which is a paratransit style program. In addition to the services offered at the Emeryville Senior Center, the City of Emeryville has two low‐income senior housing facilities. Between these two facilities, there are a total of 117 units with approximately 121 residents. Emeryville is also in the early stages of planning for a third low‐income senior housing facility to serve our community’s need. This facility is anticipated to have a similar capacity as the two existing facilities. In addition to housing, Emeryville also has a free public transportation system called the “Emery Go Round.” Through “Emery Go Round” residents may take advantage of a free shuttle service throughout the City that connects to larger, more regional public transportation systems such as BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and AC (Alameda County) Transit. Many local seniors utilize this transportation system to access local grocery stores, the Emeryville Senior Center, and to connect to BART and AC Transit. In the future, Emeryville also plans to review our sidewalk construction, the services provided to older adults, overall accessibility, transportation, and other concerns that affect the livability of our City.
