Sharjah heritage days (SHD) is an international heritage day in which it come with the same time of UNESCO World Heritage Day under the patronage of his highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed al Qasimi on the 18th April every year. Sharjah city is hosting the event every year in April in different areas in the city. A huge cultural event, full of cultural activities, knowledge and entertainment that is organized by the Sharjah Heritage institute. The event is very important as it gives awareness to our children regarding the history of our ancestors. In addition, to the customs and traditions of the ancestors that shows how life was difficult in their time. In this event elderly were in the reception section in the event, they welcomed visitors to show the importance of the elderly contributions in the society. Sharjah Heritage Institute will hold an initiative that called “Barakat Al- Turath” (Blessing of Heritage) for elderly in order to achieve the strategic objectives of Sharjah joining the international network of Age friendly cities. This Initiative has a special place in the Heritage day’s event; it displays the elderly handcrafts and highlighting their interactions with the public and visitors. The aim of the initiative is to integrate the elderly with the community by making elderly attend cultural and heritage events and contribute in various activities.
