Sharjah Chess Tournament 2017 for Elderly

Sharjah Chess Cultural Club organized Chess Tournament under the patronage of the Sharjah Sports Council. In the International Day of Elderly 2017, 32 players participated in the tournament including elderly participants.

Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Mualla, Chairman of Sharjah Chess Cultural Club, attended the event.

Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi said: “This initiative is part of the three initiatives announced recently by the Council for the elderly in the Emirate of Sharjah during the last quarter of this year in line with the Sharjah Age Friendly Strategic plan 2017-2020. The aim to provide special services for the elderly by enabling them to become more integrated into society and to get benefit from their experience. Elderly presence in Sports organizations will enhance their role, because of the experiences and practices they have acquired over many years.

The closing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Mualla, Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Club for Chess and Abdul Aziz Abdulrahman Al-Noman, Secretary General of Sharjah Sports Council.

Among the results, the Senior Professionals Championship was announced for Victor Moskalenko from Spain, second place was Fouad Al Taher from Egypt, third place was San Juan Denis from the Philippines, fourth was Mohammed Al Taher from the UAE and fifth was Antonio Molina from the Philippines
