49 volunteer senior citizens affiliated with the “Good and Blessing Team” participated in the implementation of 20 volunteer opportunities during the first quarter of 2020, within the activities of the “Sharjah age friendly cities” program of the Department of Social Services. The implementation of volunteer opportunities for members of the “Good and Blessing Team” was suspended and blessing ” In order to preserve the safety of the parents of the elderly from infection of the new Corona virus. The city is keen to implement targeted initiatives that are in line with the initiatives of Sharjah as a Sharjah age-friendly city integrate different age groups in society economically and socially and improve the quality of life for them. Also, share their experiences with others to contribute to achieving community development especially since our parents of the elderly have energies and ideas.

The involvement of the elderly in the implementation of voluntary work and programs is an ideal opportunity to integrate them into all societal groups by involving them in many initiatives that contribute to harnessing their energies and enhancing their skills. Also, investing their spare time and benefiting from their experiences and transferring them to the younger generation, as well as enabling them and enhancing community benefit from their experiences of implementing volunteer work and enhance their confident in the society. The initiative implements 20 volunteer opportunities in which the elderly has 388 volunteer hours. The volunteer opportunities were named as: The opportunity to “benefit you” and “Wages and wellness” “Warm winter”, “Good crops”, “Our environment is our responsibility”, “Breakfast of elderly”, “Garden orchid”, “Keshta”, “Movement is blessing”, “Clinic” and ” A good bag ”,“ Afforestation ”and“ Buds of the Qur’an ”,“ Group royals ”,“ Your health matters to us ”,“ The people of heaven ”,“ Planting together ”,“ A permanent trip ”,“ My environment is the source of my happiness ”and“ Reward and wellness ”and“ Your concern is with us ” and “Quench your thirst.” Knowing that the “Good and Blessing Team” volunteer work was launched by the Social Services Department in the year 2017 exclusively for its members from the elderly parents in the Emirate of Sharjah with the aim of contributing to integrating them and investing their spare time, transferring their experiences and benefiting from them in enhancing the originality of generations. In addition, this initiative is one of the eight domains of age-friendly cities standards.
