Why
It is important that first aid can be provided in case of accidents, especially in laboratories that are not situated in a hospital.
What
Purchase first aid kits and train a selection of staff members in providing first aid. The number of staff members must be chosen such that always at least one first aid provider is present.
How & who
Laboratory Manager:
- Purchase first aid kits. The number needed depends on the size of the facility. Place the first aid kits at suitable locations that are easily accessible to everybody. Place at least a first aid kit at the patient reception area and near the laboratory rooms.
- Determine the number of staff members that need to be trained in provision of first aid. Identify appropriate staff members and send them to training in first aid provision.
- Store copies of their certificates in their Personnel Files and adapt their job descriptions.
- Explain to the rest of the staff who the first aid providers are.
