The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Knowledge Hub for Public Awareness travelled to Saly, Senegal, from 10 to 12 March 2025 to run a workshop on strategic communication in tobacco control (Article 12 of the WHO FCTC).

The workshop was organised jointly by the FCTC Secretariat, the Senegalese Ministry of Health and Social Action, the WHO Senegal Country Office and our Knowledge Hub, which was responsible for producing and delivering the training content. The event brought together five French-speaking African countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Madagascar, Senegal and Tunisia.

The aim of the training was to equip participants with the skills and knowledge they need to integrate strategic communication into their tobacco control initiatives. For three days, they developed a communication strategy tailored to the context and challenges of their country, based on the methodology provided by our Knowledge Hub, based in Santé publique France.

In the future, the WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub for Public Awareness aims to expand its range of training courses, in order to strengthen its efforts to better apply the Article 12 of the WHO FCTC and thus increase the number of people exposed to anti-tobacco communication campaigns throughout the world.
