About Santé publique France

WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) Knowledge Hub (KH) on Article 12 is managed by Santé publique France at the Health Promotion and Prevention Division, precisely at the Addictions Unit.

Santé publique France, the French national public health agency, is a governmental institution reporting to the Ministry of Health. Created in 2016, Santé publique France aims to improve the health of the populations on its territory, its different missions are:

  • to coordinate and implement public health surveillance;

  • to monitor health risks threatening the population;

  • to assist public health authorities in disease control, prevention and health promotion;

  • to develop prevention and health education campaigns;

  • to contribute to the response to health alerts and crises;

  • to alert national public health authorities on potential health threats.

The Health Promotion and Prevention Division, which includes the Addictions Unit, contributes to the deployment of national and regional policies in terms of prevention risk reduction, health education and health promotion. This division is particularly responsible for programs focusing on lifestyles and populations. Among them, the Tobacco program is the subject of significant attention and investments, given the major health and social consequences of smoking in France.

With the creation of this KH, Santé publique France keeps on strengthening its international action through its knowledge and expertise sharing. The KH is financed by the Fund against addictions (Fonds de lutte contre les addictions) and relates to education, communication, training and public awareness of tobacco control issues.
