The UN High-Level Meeting on UHC takes place during the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly in 2019. The UHC Partnership organizes a side event in conjunction with this UN High-Level Meeting, titled “From political commitments to concrete actions: the way forward for UHC”, on 23 September 2019 in New York City, the United States. This side event aims at demonstrating how countries progress towards achieving UHC through diverse experiences from participating in the UHC Partnership, which supports over a hundred countries in a tailored manner. The event also provides an opportunity for development partners to contribute intensifying the UHC Partnership in terms of scope and depth of its technical assistance to countries.

Moderated by Dr Peter Salama, Executive Director of UHC/Life Course Division of WHO, the side event starts from the opening remarks by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, and H.E. Katsunobu Kato, Health Minister of Japan. In the panel session, recipient countries such as Timor Leste, South Africa, Ukraine and Kenya, introduce stories of key achievements from the fields contributed by the Partnership. The round table of donors, including the United Kingdom, European Union, France, Luxembourg and Ireland highlights the critical role of the Multi-Donor Coordination Committee to operate the UHC Partnership. The concluding remarks are given by Prof Keizo Takemi, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for UHC, and Dr Tedros.
