WHO/EMRO Regional Workshop on ship sanitation inspection, Doha, Qatar, 10-14 November 2013

WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean convened a workshop on ship inspection and issuing of ship sanitation certificates, under the framework of the International Health Regulations – 2005 (IHR), in Doha, Qatar, from 10 to 14 November 2013, in collaboration with the Government of Qatar and under the scope and support of the European Union Contribution Agreement with WHO for “Strengthening Health Security at Ports, Airports and Ground Crossings”.

EU AIRSAN Project - Coordinated action in the aviation sector to control public health threats

The AIRSAN Project aims to support EU Member States in ensuring a well-organized and coherent response to public health threats in air transport. 

In order to meet this objective, the AIRSAN Partners aim to develop:
• an AIRSAN Network,
• AIRSAN Guidance Documents,
• an AIRSAN Website and an AIRSAN Communication Platform, and
• an AIRSAN Training Tool.

EU SHIPSAN ACT training course on Hygiene and Health Practices on Passenger Ships

The first EU SHIPSAN ACT Joint Action training course was conducted in Tivoli Terme, Rome, Italy from Tuesday 8th to Thursday 10th October 2013. The course was co-organised by the EU SHIPSAN ACT Joint Action and the Italian Ministry of Health.
A total of 29 trainees participated in the training course: 16 seafarers from 6 cruise companies, 1 ferry company and 1 ship management company and 13 port health officers.
