IHR (2005) Emergency Committee regarding Ebola (7th August)

On 6 August, WHO is convening an Emergency Committee of international experts to review the outbreak and advise the Director-General, in accordance with the International Health Regulations, whether the Ebola virus disease outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Experts will receive an epidemiological briefing and will determine whether the criteria for a PHEIC have been met. If the Emergency Committee agrees that this is a PHEIC, they will then advise the Director-General on temporary recommendations.

New WHO Collaborative Centre for IHR - Points of Entry in China (AQSIQ)

In July 2014, WHO has designated a new collaborating Centre for IHR – Points of Entry with the Health Quarantine and Inspection Department of the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China, in order to have their support in the development of global technical guidance, tools,  networks and activities related to core capacity building in the context of International Health Regulations (IHR), such as for development of a global vector identification platform.

New WHO Collaborative Centre for IHR - Points of Entry in Greece (University of Thessaly)

In February 2014, WHO has designated the University of Thessaly (UTH) as a WHO collaboration centre in order to have their support in training activities related to ship inspections and management of public health events at points of entry by helping WHO in the establishment and maintenance of a roster of experts-trainers. The UTH will also assist WHO in training activities related to ship sanitation and event management on ships and at points of entry (ports)/ international travel and transport.
