National Health Policy Strategy and Plan
Estrategia Nacional de Salud para los objetivos sanitarios al 2030
The Chilean National Health Strategy 2022-2030 aims to strengthen the healthcare system and improve public health through seven strategic axes: environment and healthy surroundings, lifestyle, communicable diseases, chronic non-communicable diseases and violence, functionality and disability, emergencies and disasters, and management, quality, and innovation. The plan is built upon a participatory approach, involving civil society, academia, and technical and sectoral professionals. The assessment highlights key challenges, including environmental risks, high rates of chronic diseases, increasing mental health issues, and inequities in healthcare access. The strategy emphasizes universal health coverage, equity, and strengthening primary healthcare, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals. It outlines measurable objectives such as reducing obesity and tobacco use, improving mental health support, and ensuring better response to health emergencies. The implementation framework includes monitoring and evaluation mechanisms with specific indicators and periodic assessments. However, achieving its ambitious goals requires strong intersectoral coordination, sustainable financing, and effective governance. Without addressing structural and financial constraints, disparities in health outcomes may persist, limiting the overall impact of the strategy.
