National Health Policy Strategy and Plan

Plan Federal de Salud 2010-2016

Argentina’s Plan Federal de Salud (2010–2016) aimed to strengthen healthcare governance, improve service equity, and enhance institutional capacity. The plan was designed around a federal consensus model, ensuring collaboration between national and provincial health authorities. It prioritized universal health coverage, primary healthcare expansion, and improved epidemiological surveillance while addressing key health determinants. Significant progress was made in reducing infant and maternal mortality, strengthening disease prevention, and expanding public health programs. Investments in hospital infrastructure, workforce development, and pharmaceutical regulation contributed to improved service delivery. However, persistent regional disparities, fragmented healthcare financing, and gaps in access to specialized care remained critical challenges. The strategy emphasized integrated care networks, enhanced digital health infrastructure, and expanded coverage for vulnerable populations. Public health initiatives focused on controlling non-communicable diseases, improving maternal and child health, and strengthening vaccination programs. However, financial sustainability and coordination among different healthcare sectors remained concerns, affecting the overall efficiency of service provision. Despite these challenges, the plan provided a strong foundation for long-term healthcare improvements. Sustained investment in digital health, policy integration, and decentralized service delivery remains crucial for achieving Argentina’s national health objectives.
