Workforce Development for Health EDRM - Training and competency development

Workforce training and competency development activities teach essential skills and competencies and share up-to-date knowledge and evidence in order to enable people to provide cares and services to manage health challenges during emergencies (rephrase).

The WHO Knowledge Hub for Workforce Development for Health EDRM introduces currently available training activities and competency developmet.

The WKC research project (2019-2021) identified many training courses for capacity development. Those courses usually target at specific jobs.  

 

Health workers

  • WHO Human Resources for Health Leadership and management: a six-module course that provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of health resources for health (HRH) policy and management. It includes effective leadership and governance of HRH, development and use of HRH data and human resources information systems, leadership in education and training, and research skills required to support leadership decisions.
  • OpenWHO: COVID-19 vaccination training for health workers. another valuable resource for healthcare professionals involved in the implementation of COVID-19 vaccination. It includes six interactive modules that cover important topics and skills necessary to ensure the safe and efficient administration of COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Health Cluster Turkey Hub: led by the World Health Organization's Gaziantep office, provides training and support to Syrian healthcare workers.

Women healthcare workers

  • Delivered by women, led by men: A gender and equity analysis of the global health and social workforce” (2019): A report co-produced by WHO and Women in Global Health, confirms that women health workers are concentrated into lower status, lower paid and often, unpaid roles, facing harsh realities of gender bias and harassment. The working paper “Gender equity in the health workforce: An analysis of 104 countries” uses recent health workforce data to provide robust estimates of female participation in the health workforce, occupational segregation by gender and the gender pay gap.
