  • What is the WHO FCTC?

    The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is a public health treaty adopted by the 56th World Health Assembly on 21 May 2003. The Convention, one of the most rapidly and widely embraced treaties in United Nations history, entered into force on 27 February 2005 and has currently 182 Parties. The WHO FCTC was developed in response to the globalization of the tobacco epidemic and is an evidence-based treaty that reaffirms the right of all people to the highest standard of health.   • What is a WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub?

    Overall, Knowledge Hubs assist in the implementation of Article 22 (Cooperation in the scientific, technical, and legal fields and provision of related expertise) by analysing, synthesising, and disseminating information in their areas of expertise. The Convention Secretariat has established eight Knowledge Hubs so far (with at least one in each of the six WHO regions). The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub at the Center for Studies on Tobacco and Health focuses on articles 17&18 implementation aspects. To read more about our work, go to the ‘About Us’ section of this site.   • What is CETAB/FIOCRUZ?

    CETAB is a governmental center established in 2013 at Brazil‘s National School of Public Health (ENSP) in Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), under Brazilian Ministry of Health. CETAB’s mission is “to formulate proposals and execute activities of education, research and technical cooperation in tobacco control and other risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), aimed at contributing to health promotion and prevention in Brazil and other countries”. CETAB undertakes and supports research initiatives, builds capacity by offering regular face-to-face courses and e-learning platforms, collects, analyses and disseminates information and engages in international cooperation both nationally and internationally. CETAB's articles 17&18 current activities include analytical research, data collection and analysis of social and environmental aspects of tobacco production and use, including in vulnerable groups such tobacco growers, children, women and the poor.
