Constitution

The Constitution was promulgated by the Law N° 2016-886 of 8 November 2016 and modified by constitutional law N° 2020-348 of 19 March 2020. It includes 184 articles addressing a wide array of issues including among other things fundamental freedoms, duties and rights, the fundamental principles of the Republic and institutional arrangements.

This order provides for the organization, attributions and functioning of the National Program for School and University Health.

The document provides the guideline treatment and the standard of care for the Nigerian Population. Taking also into consideration different approaches from the health sector.

Loi N°2015-532 portant Code du travail

This law provides for the Labour Code, establishing the rules governing the relations between employers and (salaried) employees in the country.

The objective of the law is to define the conditions and the rules for the practice of pharmacy.

The Law establishes a mandatory system of insurance for health for the residents in Cote d'Ivoire named universal sickness cover ("couverture maladie universelle")

This decree was adopted to implement the Law 2014-131 (universal health insurance) to establish the Social Security Institution ("institution de Prévoyance sociale").

The National Health Act

This Act provides a framework for the regulation, development and management of a national health system and sets standards for rendering health services in Nigeria, as well as related matters.

The objective of the law is to govern personal data protection.

National Identity Management Commission Act

This Act provides for the establishment of a national identity database and the National Identity Management Commission charge with the responsibilities for maintenance of the national database, the registration of individuals, and the issuance of general multipurpose identity cards; and for related matters.

Code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria

The law enacts the Code of medical ethics in Nigeria for every medical and dental practitioner.

Medical and Dental Practitioners Act

This Act establishes the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for the registration of medical practitioners and dental surgeons and provides for a Disciplinary Tribunal for the discipline of members.

Nursing and Midwifery (registration, etc.) Act

This Act establishes the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for the registration of nurses and midwives and State Nursing and Midwifery Committees, and provides for the discipline of nurses and midwives and other ancillary matters.

The Code provides for the "Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale" (CNPS) whose tasked is to provide benefits to salaried employees to alleviate the financial consequences of certain risks or situations such as accident at work and occupational diseases, maternity, retirement, invalidity and death and family allowances (art. 1 and 5).

The Constitution of Nigeria was promulgated in 1999 and reviewed in 2023. The Constitution contains 320 articles addressing a large number of issues as the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, the fundamental principles of the state and institutional arrangements (see more below).

Health Record Officers (Registration, etc.) Act

The Act establishes a Board for the control and practice of the profession of health records management and matters relating thereto.

Quarantine Act

This Act provides and regulates the imposition of quarantine and to make other provisions for preventing the introduction into and spread in Nigeria, and the transmission from Nigeria, of dangerous infectious diseases.
