Health Legislation

This Act repeals and replaces the Public Health Act of 1960, provides for the promotion, protection and improvement of public health and well-being in Sierra Leone, provides for the protection of individuals and communities from public health risks, provides for the prevention and control of the spread of infectious diseases, provides for local government and community participation in protecting public health, provides for early detection and prompt response to diseases and public health threats and provides for other related matters.

This Act provides for the protection and promotion of the interests of consumers; provides for the establishment of the National Consumer Protection Commission and for other related matters.

This Law contributes to the protection of the present and future generations from the devastating health, social and health effects of diseases affecting public health and in particular reproductive health in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This Act repeals and replaces the National Pharmaceutical Procurement Unit Act, 2012 to establish the National Medical Supplies Agency as a public service agency responsible for the procurement, warehousing and distribution of drugs and medical supplies in a transparent and cost-effective manner for and on behalf of all public institutions throughout Sierra Leone.

This Act provides for the amendment and consolidation of the laws relating to the compulsory registration of citizens and non-citizens resident in Sierra Leone, provides for the issuance of identity cards, provides for the establishment of the National Civil Registration Authority responsible for the registration of births adoptions, deaths, marriages, divorces and nullities throughout Sierra Leone and provides for other related matters.

This Law provides for the extension of the health insurance regime as established by Ordinance No 2005-006 of 29 September 2005 to other population categories such as employees of local authorities and their public establishments; employees of projects and other administrative structures benefiting from financial autonomy; persons exercising a liberal profession; employees and pensioners of the private sector, private law associations and other civil society organizations; professional journalists and private press collaborators; independent workers.

This Law defines the legal provisions relating to medicines, medical devices, other health products and the practice of pharmacy in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This Law is published in a collection of other legislative acts and can be found on page 3 of the file.

This Act amends the Medical Practitioners and Dental Surgeons Act, 1994.

This Act amends section 38 of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

This Act regulates the profession of pharmacy; controls the supply, manufacture, storage and transportation of drugs, including nutritional agents and cosmetics; and provides for other matters related thereto.
