Health Legislation

This Act repeals and replaces the Public Health Act of 1960, provides for the promotion, protection and improvement of public health and well-being in Sierra Leone, provides for the protection of individuals and communities from public health risks, provides for the prevention and control of the spread of infectious diseases, provides for local government and community participation in protecting public health, provides for early detection and prompt response to diseases and public health threats and provides for other related matters.

This Decree declares the State of Health Emergency and dictates precautionary measures for the prevention, containment and control of the new coronavirus pandemic in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

This Act provides for the protection and promotion of the interests of consumers; provides for the establishment of the National Consumer Protection Commission and for other related matters.

This Act establishes the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority; provides for the functions and powers of the Authority; and provides for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

This Act makes provision for the prevention and management of HIV and AIDS; provides for the rights and obligations of persons living with HIV or affected by HIV and AIDS; provides for the establishment of the National AIDS Commission; and provides for matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.

This Act repeals and replaces the National Pharmaceutical Procurement Unit Act, 2012 to establish the National Medical Supplies Agency as a public service agency responsible for the procurement, warehousing and distribution of drugs and medical supplies in a transparent and cost-effective manner for and on behalf of all public institutions throughout Sierra Leone.

This Act provides for the amendment and consolidation of the laws relating to the compulsory registration of citizens and non-citizens resident in Sierra Leone, provides for the issuance of identity cards, provides for the establishment of the National Civil Registration Authority responsible for the registration of births adoptions, deaths, marriages, divorces and nullities throughout Sierra Leone and provides for other related matters.

The Sierra Leone Basic Package of Essential Health Services provides a framework and guiding document for improving health service delivery in Sierra Leone. It represents a commitment from the Government of Sierra Leone to ensure that a basic level of essential health care service delivery is available to its people.

This Act promotes gender equality, equal integration, influence, empowerment, dignity and opportunities, for men and women in all functions of society, prohibits and provides redress for sex discrimination, harmful practices and sexual harassment, provides for public awareness on the promotion of gender equality, and provides for connected matters.

This Act provides for partnerships between the public sector and private sector for the supply of infrastructure and delivery of services as means of contributing towards sustaining economic growth, social development and infrastructure development; provides for the development and implementation of public-private partnership arrangements in Malawi for the delivery of infrastructure and services; provides for the establishment of the Public Private Partnership Commission; provides for private sector participation in state-owned enterprises, commercial entities and commercial assets, and provides for matters connected with or incidental to the foregoing.

This Act provides for the registration of persons and registration of births, marriages and deaths of persons and provides for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

This Act amends the Medical Practitioners and Dental Surgeons Act, 1994.

This Act amends section 38 of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

The purpose of this Law is to create a legal framework that allows for the implementation of the actions and mechanisms necessary for the education, prevention, treatment, epidemiological surveillance, research, care and monitoring of sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, as well as to guarantee respect, protection and defence of human rights, and to eliminate the stigmatization and discrimination of people infected with HIV/AIDS. This Act protects the rights of consumers, addresses the interests and needs of consumers, establishes a Consumer Protection Council, provides an effective redress mechanism for consumer claims and provides for other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.

The scope of application of this Law includes: medicines and health products, as well as the actions of natural and legal persons involved in the production, marketing, prescription and dispensing of pharmaceutical and health products within the national territory.
