The law institutes a Social Protection Code in Burundi.
The Code provides for the "Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale" (CNPS) whose tasked is to provide benefits to salaried employees to alleviate the financial consequences of certain risks or situations such as accident at work and occupational diseases, maternity, retirement, invalidity and death and family allowances (art. 1 and 5).
This Decree implements the Social Security Code.
The law establishes the general conditions for implementing the principles governing Social Security, with the aim of providing salaried workers and their families with protection against the economic and social distress.
The document is a compendium of the main legislative provisions regarding social security, family benefits, prevention of and compensation for accidents at work and occupational diseases, old-age, disability and death pension insurance, collection of social security contributions.
