The law institutes a Social Protection Code in Burundi.

The law sets out the fundamental principles and rules for the organization and operation of the national public health system.
The Code provides for the "Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale" (CNPS) whose tasked is to provide benefits to salaried employees to alleviate the financial consequences of certain risks or situations such as accident at work and occupational diseases, maternity, retirement, invalidity and death and family allowances (art. 1 and 5).
This Decree implements the Social Security Code.
The law establishes the general conditions for implementing the principles governing Social Security, with the aim of providing salaried workers and their families with protection against the economic and social distress.
