The decree approves the plan of positions, careers and salaries for the staff that make up the medical career. The system applies to all doctors in the National Health Service who are part of the career. The aim of establishing a medical career is to guarantee and organize the exercise of medical activity in the National Health Service. It is also a particular objective of the medical career to encourage and reward scientific research and experimentation in the field of medicine in Cape Verde.

The decree establishes rules concerning the free movement and establishment of doctors in the West African Economic and Monetary Union.

This law creates a National Order of Physicians.
