This Act provides for the establishment and constitution of a professional Council for the pharmacy profession; determines the powers, duties and functions of such Council; regulates the registration of pharmacists and persons practising professions allied to the pharmacy profession; specifies the education and training and qualifications of persons practising such professions; prohibits the practising of any such profession without being registered; and provides for matters incidental thereto.

The law enacts the Code of medical ethics in Nigeria for every medical and dental practitioner.

This Act establishes the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for the registration of medical practitioners and dental surgeons and provides for a Disciplinary Tribunal for the discipline of members.

This Act establishes the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for the registration of nurses and midwives and State Nursing and Midwifery Committees, and provides for the discipline of nurses and midwives and other ancillary matters.

This Decree-Law approves the Statute of Medical Careers in Sao Tome and Principe.

The scope of application of this Law includes: medicines and health products, as well as the actions of natural and legal persons involved in the production, marketing, prescription and dispensing of pharmaceutical and health products within the national territory. This Act repeals and replaces the Nursing Council Act of 1992 to make further and better provisions for the establishment, composition and functioning of a Nursing Council, to establish a disciplinary Tribunal and to better regulate and control the nursing and midwifery professions.
